Abbott Informatics protects an organization’s data and patients through the design and maintenance of their products. They have implemented the security controls below in the STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution.
Application Audit Log – Selected security events are logged such as application transactions, login attempts and failures, and user history and deactivation.
Data-in-transit Protection – Featuring a tamperproof mechanism, the technology platform detects communication tampering. It is also effective against automated penetration tools. Moreover, session-based authentication is integrated.
Identity & Credential Management – Rather than the storage of passwords in clear text, this feature stores a salted hash of passwords.
Limited Processing of PII – Sample IDs are used by the STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution to track samples.
Maintenance of Integrity & Authenticity – Logic utilized to detect and reject tampering. Integrity checks validate extensions, including uploaded data, as confirmed by a predetermined list. Only authenticated users with system access can upload data.
Secure Account/Password Policy – Supports limits for the number of days prior to reusing an identical password, sets number of days passing before allowing password replacement, controls password lifetime, sets number of grace logins, and activates lockout after set number of failed password attempts, and provides password complexity.
Secure Remote Desktop Connections – Abbott’s initiations of remote desktop connections are password protected and executed via secure channels of encrypted communication.
User Accounts – Supporting to role-based access control, this STARLIMS user account management feature restricts a user’s access to forms and applications inside a product.
STARLIMS implements the latest advances of modern technology to provide a totally integrated solution that incorporates LIMS, Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN), Scientific Data Management System (SDMS), Advanced Analytics, and Mobile within a single application. This innovation makes the creation and maintenance of custom interfaces to third party tools unnecessary.
