As discussed in Part 1, the latest Windows 10 version tentatively named “April 2019 Update” is close to being released by Microsoft.  Part 2 will discuss Changes to Updates, Windows Sandbox, and Miscellaneous Additions.

As an important reminder, extended support for Windows 7 will end in less than a year on January 14, 2020. Protect your business data by working with a professional and upgrading all your company’s machines to Windows 10 today.

Changes to Updates

Occasionally, a Windows update will result in issues like loss of data and bugs. The April 2019 Update will attempt to minimize problems by allowing users running Windows 10 Home on their computers to pause updates for up to one week. This feature has been available on Windows 10 Enterprise and Professional with a longer pause period of 35 days. The hiatus allows users to do research regarding possible problems caused by a monthly update and decide whether or not to install.
Perhaps a bit alarming to some, about 7GB of disk space will be permanently reserved for the installation of general updates from Microsoft. The intention is to ensure your computer stays secure and performs efficiently by having the latest Windows updates. Apps, system caches, and temporary files will also be stored here as needed.

Windows Sandbox

Built into Windows 10 Professional and Enterprise, Windows Sandbox gives users a secure environment for isolating and running questionable apps without putting their computer at risk. When a Windows Sandbox is closed, the app and its associated files will be deleted.

Miscellaneous Additions

Microsoft’s April 2019 Update will also bring small, interesting tweaks to Windows 10. There will be a new system tray icon to indicate the microphone is being used. The screen brightness slider found in the Action Center has been upgraded. There is now also a simplified settings app featuring quick actions.
