As discussed in Part 1, Microsoft’s newest version of their server operating system, Windows Server 2019, has new features and upgrades that expand on several functions of the previous release, Windows Server 2016. Part 2 will discuss Kubernetes, Security, and Storage. For implementing new IT solutions like Windows Server 2019, work with an experienced and expert managed services provider to get the best results.

Kubernetes

Windows Server 2019 provides greater support for Kubernetes, an open-source container orchestration system. Docker Container, Hyper-V Container, Linux Container, and Windows Server Container can now be utilized in unison because Kubernetes will manage all of them together. The images for individual containers have also been improved.

Security

Strengthening security, Windows Server 2019 accesses cloud services as Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection monitors the server for both malware and dangerous processes. In addition, this solution will also fight root kits and zero-day attacks. The Azure and Windows Server 2019 linkage also provides administrators the ability to use Azure Active Directory, which offers identity and access capabilities for applications, to enhance security.
The use of shielded VMs also provides more protection because tasks can be carried out within a secure virtual machine. This approach is now applicable to Linux servers. The options for encryption have also increased, including the encryption of data transfers between virtual machines.

Storage

In terms of data storage, Microsoft has made migrating to Windows Server 2019, as well as to the cloud, easier.
Storage Space Direct now provides greater stability and speed in terms of server performance. Tremendous improvements in scalability have made up to four petabytes per cluster possible.
Windows Server 2019 standard version users can now use Storage Replica, which enables the replication of volumes between servers or clusters for disaster recovery, but with limitations. Only a single replication with a maximum size of two terabytes can be made.
