June 14, 2016You can never be too careful when you are online. When you sign onto a public computer, refrain from conducting any personal banking or putting any private information such as your credit card or Social Security number, your address or you phone number into this non-private computer. You don’t want your private information stored on someone else’s computer.
Be aware of people around you while you’re using a computer in public. Whether it’s a library computer or your own computer, you want to make sure no one can see the password or any other private information.
Before and after using a public computer clean out the temporary internet files, history, cookies, cache and the recycling bin to make sure none of your private information or the websites you visited can be traced.
If you use your laptop for work as you are traveling, it’s a good idea to get a virtual private network. This will assure you that your work system is encrypted and can’t be hacked by someone with bad intentions. It’s vital that you are on a secure server to protect your work and keep data going through your computer and your company safe.
Be respectful of copyright laws when you are online. Only download music after following the procedures and always pay for the downloads to avoid legal issues.
When traveling, keep your laptop with you at all times. When you are going through airport security, be at the receiving side of that scan to retrieve it immediately.
If you’re staying in a hotel, don’t leave your computer sitting out when you aren’t in the room. Have it locked in your luggage or a secure bag or safe or take it with you when you leave the room. Always keep yourself and your belongings safe when you’re traveling.
