Part 3 will cover Data Center Vulnerabilities, Redundancy, and Surveillance Monitoring System.

Data Center Vulnerabilities

Cybercriminals can utilize various tools and techniques for infiltrating a data center and its security system. The attacker might focus on specific users and employ social engineering to trick victims into providing passwords or an access point to evade the security system. Downloaded malware can be used for gaining access to login credentials and passwords. Ransomware can hijack a computer, blocking access to its data and applications through encryption. This may force the company to pay a ransom in order to regain access. Inadequate network security can also leave a data center vulnerable to cyberattacks.

Organizations must provide ongoing employee education regarding cyberattacks, malware, and social engineering. The program should also include strong credential and password management combined with the implementation of MFA. Staff training is one of the most effective methods for decreasing human-based vulnerabilities.

Redundancy

Data center resiliency is ensured by employing redundancy. In the event a primary component malfunctions or fails, the backup component will be automatically or manually activated. This allows key systems and mission-critical applications to keep functioning.

For example, a standby backup generator for the power system will automatically activate when utility power is lost. An adequate supply of electricity will allow computing functions and the cooling system to continue running.

Primary computing systems may employ secondary physical machines and virtualization in case of failure, helping minimize or even eliminate downtime. Thus, business continuity is ensured.

Security can be enhanced by redundancy. Typically, two digital security components work in tandem. Both are complementary and redundant to each other. To illustrate, several firewalls can be deployed for tightening the digital security of a data center.

Surveillance Monitoring System

A surveillance monitoring system helps ensures strong security. Firstly, video cameras can record the entry of personnel and their activities at various areas of a facility. In the event of a breach, recordings may be able to assist law enforcement. The presence of video cameras is also a deterrent against criminal activity.
