The internet has a wealth of information available to you, and it’s right at your fingertips. Anything that you can imagine you want to know can be found somewhere on the internet. Hundreds of thousands of internet searches are conducted every day. Many times it takes a few attempts to find the exact information you want. Part of the reason it can be hard to find the information you want is because people have found ways to get their information listed in areas that don’t exactly fit.

Since there might be hundreds of articles that match the topic you are looking for, finding the one that best meets your needs takes some skill. Here are a few ideas that might help you cut through the clutter online to get to your desired information more quickly.

First you want to think of the best way to describe what you’re looking for in a few unique words. Using a dash like this –  between words can help to narrow your search.

Switch it up when you are conducting your searches; don’t just use the common word. You may want to add the word “the” and “how to” and “what is” with the term and topic to help get a search that might be closer to meeting your needs.

It’s best to use the + symbol rather than typing “and” in your search since “and” is over used it will not assist you with your search as well at using a + symbol.

Punctuation and capitalizing words aren’t necessary or recognized.  However if you are searching for a quote, using quotation marks like this, for example “with the exact quote” can enhance your search providing you can remember the exact quote.

Using the symbol * after a proper word can help you command the search engine to show you anything relevant in the category you are searching for.
