Part 2 will discuss the Public Cloud, Private Cloud, and Hybrid Cloud.

Public Cloud

The public cloud offers a variety of services for computing and storage to businesses. An example is a user using a computer connected to a cloud drive for transferring photos and documents remotely. Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud are examples of public cloud providers.

Enterprises typically feel that utilizing the public cloud storage is economical because they are only paying for the capacity they require. This can be decreased or increased as needed, promoting ease of scalability. Moreover, cloud storage providers are responsible for administration, cybersecurity, and maintenance, which is convenient and cost-effective for businesses.

Private Cloud

A private cloud is defined as a cloud service that performs the cloud computing and storage of a single organization while being completely segregated from other organizations. This arrangement is provided at a premium, but it is typically more secure as access is strictly limited, promoting compliance with regulations governing data privacy.

Similar to the public cloud, the provider of private cloud services is responsible for administration, cybersecurity, and maintenance. This is in contrast to an in-house private cloud for which an organization has all the responsibility.

Hybrid Cloud

Organizations that would like to use a mix of the above three types of cloud services will be opting for a hybrid cloud arrangement. It may be a combination of off-premises and on-premises IT cloud assets.

The main advantages of utilizing the hybrid cloud model are agility and flexibility. An organization can use either the cloud services of a vendor or its own in-house cloud as needed or required by a specific use case.
