October 7, 2022Optimizing the Data Center of Your Company – Part 2
October 14, 2022Data center optimization can improve a company’s profitability by decreasing the costs for data security and IT infrastructure. However, your IT support must be cost-effective, dependable, and flexible to remain competitive.
Basics of Data Centers
A data center is made up of software and hardware that store an organization’s data storage systems and IT infrastructure.
In order to run smoothly, a data center needs a high-speed network, backup servers, environment control, regular maintenance, uninterrupted power supply, and more.
The following will discuss the four chief types of data centers, focusing on their strengths and weaknesses.
1) On Premise
Situated in the same facility as its organization, an on-premise data center offers total control. One disadvantage is the high costs brought about by aging infrastructure. Another is the need and cost to employ technicians who provide support and maintenance on premises.
2) Colocation
A colocation data center involves a company leasing a portion of a data center facility on a monthly or annual basis. It will be the service provider’s responsibility to secure this physical space and provide technically sufficient conditions. However, the company is responsible for installing, managing, and maintaining its own hardware. Decreasing CAPEX costs, this option offers hardware customization and complete control over a data center’s configuration and management. The drawback is that it may not be cost effective.
3) Virtualized
A virtualized data center hosts a portion of data assets locally and a portion in the cloud. This arrangement decreases hardware costs and energy use, while improving data mobility and offering speedy scalability when required. However, there will more costs from software licensing and implementation.
4) Cloud
Offered by a vendor, a cloud data center provides software and hardware resources to companies. This type of data center is rapidly gaining popularity because it features swift scalability, a pay-per-use fee structure, high reliability, and strong security. Costs are decreased, and it is also cost effective because employees do not need to be hired for managing a cloud data center.
