The Basics & Importance of Data Synchronization – Part 2
November 30, 2021Predictive Analytics and Cybersecurity – Part 2
December 6, 2021Nowadays cyberattacks are more frequent and sophisticated, and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) are often on the front lines to protect their clients. Any company, whether large or small, can be a victim of cybercrime. Fortunately, the development of predictive analytics may be the critical key to strengthening your defenses.
Capable of spotting a data breach before it may occur, predictive analytics is like having radar. This provides a warning period during which your IT team can bolster your cybersecurity. Rather than finding out there was a data breach after it happened, predictive analytics can prevent one from occurring.
Bot vs. Bot
As cyberattacks evolve in complexity and number, organizations are scrambling to implement effective solutions. Due to the advent of stricter laws and regulations governing personal data, this task is growing even more crucial.
Traditional security systems work with signatures for identifying the patterns of past attacks and changes to a system. However, new cyberattacks are randomizing their signatures, making it nearly impossible for strategies relying on this type of detection to succeed. The solution to this serious challenge will require using good bots against hacker bots.
The DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge 2016 first pitted bot against bot in a hacking competition sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Competing teams invented bots that were able to detect bugs much faster than human beings. Good bots protected their systems while determining the weaknesses of hacker bots and then attacking them. The predictive analytics techniques that helped good bots to succeed was considered to be the most promising way to cope with the ever-growing volume of cybersecurity threats.
Proactive Predictive Analytics
Before the advent of predictive analytics, steps for strengthening cybersecurity and preventing attacks mostly came in the aftermath of successful data breaches. Security patches were developed and installed after the damage was done. Fortunately, enterprises can now implement predictive analytics to discover potential cybersecurity risks threats and defend against them before a damaging data breach occurs.
Part 2 will discuss Artificial Intelligence, Network Detection & Response, and Threat Identification.
