November 16, 2021As discussed in Part 1, Windows 11 entered the marketplace on October 5th 2021 with new advanced and user-friendly features. Part 2 will cover the disadvantages of Windows 11 in comparison to Windows 10.
Windows 11 Cons
1) New System Requirements – Upgrading to Windows 11 will raise system requirements to 4 GB RAM and and 64 GB hard disk space, which may hamper Windows 11’s performance. In order to run Windows 11, a computer must also have TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 1.2 or higher and support Secure Boot. To be Windows 11 capable, a PC’s processor must feature two or more cores as well as a clock speed of 1GHz or higher.
The above Windows 11 minimum system requirements will mean more expensive computers. Another additional cost will be the graphics card, which needs compatibility with DirectX 12 or later and the WDDM 2.0 driver.
2) Adapting to New and Lost Features – Windows 11 is designed to overcome several Windows 10 limitations. However, it will take time for users to adapt to its new features. In addition Paint 3D and Skype will be removed from Windows 11, which may upset some users.
3) Potential Upgrade Problems – Although Microsoft will still release Windows 10 system updates as needed until October 2025, issues may arise for Windows 10 users after Microsoft makes upgrading to Windows 11 mandatory. This same situation occurred when Windows 7 users were required to upgrade to Windows 10.
4) IT Training for Troubleshooting – IT professionals will be needed to address issues arising from the transition to Windows 11. In order for them to be effective, they will need training for the new operating system.
Employee training for the transition to Windows 11 will require an investment of time and money by organizations. Some companies will not only have to revamp hardware, they will have to spend resources on continuing education and training for their staff.
