On March 17, 2021 Abbott Informatics announced the V12.0 release of their STARLIMS Forensic Laboratory Information Management Solution, which supports law enforcement agencies in their generation and management of immense amounts of data from crime scenes.

Managing the evidence lifecycle, STARLIMS Forensics assists in collections, submissions, evidence tracking with bar codes, evidence disposition, sample analysis, instrument integration, case assignments, result entries, report generation, and reviews.

New Features of STARLIMS Forensics V12.0

Improving the integration between crime scenes, property, and laboratory, STARLIMS Forensics V12.0 also makes the long-anticipated transition to case-focused product from container centric product. Greater consistency of appearance through pre-log, property, and laboratory steps is provided by new configurable intake screens.

Enhanced Analysis Assignment and Reporting Capability

Along with the ability to assign cases and exhibits, authorized staff are now capable of assigning analyses to exhibits and analysts or made available in a pool. Toxicology units consider this workflow especially important. Previously, only an analyst who performed an analysis can generate a final report, but now other authorized personnel can do so.

Additional Productivity Report Capabilities

Productivity Report Items enable users to manage the list of statistics and items that can be features within a productivity report. Every item can represent either a single table or data point. V12.0 also allows users to add available Productivity Report Items to a template as well as configurable default parameters for every item.

More Case Management Tools

Every time a “hit” is generated between two cases, it is added automatically in Case Management and indicated as recursive. Subsequently, police personnel can be advised of the resulting investigative lead. A report identifying hit(s) requiring dispositioning can be generated to help prevent link(s) from being overlooked.

Property Module

Featuring several new features, the Property Module can now provide alerts that display evidence pre-logged at several sites that is now overdue to be submitted to a laboratory or another location. A new disposition functionality assists personnel in the identification of items that are now eligible for disposition and the management of processes between property and police officers.
