Implementing state-of-the-art technology, STARLIMS provides an integrated solution that incorporates LIMS, Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN), Scientific Data Management System (SDMS), Advanced Analytics, and a Mobile platform within a single application. This innovation makes building and maintaining custom interfaces required by third-party tools unnecessary.

Part 3 will discuss how a laboratory can use the STARLIMS SDMS with or without an existing LIMS.

STARLIMS SDMS Works With Existing LIMS

Labs working with a LIMS without SDMS capability may think transitioning to a new LIMS with an SDMS may be too challenging. Fortunately, the STARLIMS SDMS can be a standalone solution to provide robust documentation support without replacing an existing LIMS. This would decrease the period required to attain the necessary data integrity improvements.

STARLIMS SDMS’ Application Programming Interface (API) allows the web service methods needed to integrate the SDMS with the LIMS. These methods include receiving LIMS sample data, transmitting results to the LIMS, obtaining and transmitting SDMS raw data files, and archiving as determined by the raw data’s original file structure.

STARLIMS Standalone SDMS Can Function Without LIMS

Organizations that do not yet have a LIMS can implement the STARLIMS SDMS standalone solution. After that, they can upgrade to the Enterprise STARLIMS version or another LIMS.

Labs without LIMS can also utilize the standalone SDMS to comply with data integrity standards. In this event, SDMS will store data files within a folder, allowing auditors to review the information.

In cases where the standalone SDMS is working without a LIMS, the solution can still help meet much of the requirements set forth by 21 CFR parts 211 and 212 for data integrity, which a chromatography data system (CDS) may not. For example, data is backed up and protected from loss or deterioration. In addition, raw data will be captured in real-time, and the information will be the original record.

Utilizing a standalone SDMS can be the crucial first step for a lab to attain data integrity compliance before implementing a LIMS.
