Part 4 will cover more symptoms indicating your company needs an IT to upgrade.

9) Unreliable Backup & Disaster Recovery

Many companies do not have a backup and disaster recovery (DR) plan. Every business that does not have a project will be vulnerable to catastrophic data loss resulting from a system breach or disaster.

If your organization does not have a DR plan, you can consult with an MSP (managed services provider) to create one. Their professionals will help you set up a system that integrates automated backup and data recovery in the cloud. The DR plan will be activated if a data incident occurs, allowing your company to maintain business continuity.

10) GDPR Non-Compliance

Stringent data privacy laws were passed by the European Union (EU) in May 2018. GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) regulates user data collection, usage, storage, processing, and deletion. An organization dealing with EU citizens must comply with the GDPR or be subject to heavy penalties and fines.

If necessary, confer with an expert whether your business is GDPR-compliant. Upgrading your company’s IT infrastructure can help ensure compliance.

11) Data Breach

Perhaps the strongest indication IT infrastructure needs an upgrade is a  data breach. When a cyberattack succeeds in a data breach, a company may be prevented from conducting business because its information has been compromised.

A study by the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) found that an estimated six out of 10 SMEs (small and medium enterprises) permanently close within six months after a data breach or cyberattack. The closures result from economic damages due to loss of data, harmed reputation, and lawsuits.

Cybercriminals exploit system vulnerabilities to breach security systems and illicitly access networks. Work with an MSP to evaluate and upgrade your IT infrastructure in terms of cybersecurity if needed.
