How Virtual Machines & Virtualization Can Benefit Your Business – Part 3
June 24, 2020STARLIMS Introduces Technology Platform v12 – Part 2
June 30, 2020On May 1, 2020, Abbott Informatics proudly introduced STARLIMS Technology Platform v12. This upgrade of the Technology Platform provides many enhancements and fixes which will assist users in properly operating and maintaining the STARLIMS LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
Overview
The STARLIMS Technology Platform features mechanisms and systems required for the decoupling of the implementation of business applications from the workings of browsers, data base systems, and operating systems.
As provided by their maintenance contract, every STARLIMS user will receive a complimentary upgrade of the Technology Platform to its latest version. STARLIMS system upgrades are needed for complying and aligning with the newest industry and IT best practices and regulations.
New Features & Highlights
Featuring various new functionalities, Technology Platform v12 (TP v12) delivers the most innovations since the introductions of the HTML5 and XFD frameworks. The following highlights the new features.
Digital Assistant Engine
Natural language processing supporting voice-based commands provides a new method for interacting with LIMS. Preconfigured with TP v12, the Digital Assistant Engine provides every needed tool and service for developing voice-based skills for business applications.
Code Layering
A unique technology, code layering lets STARLIMS capture revisions performed to forms, dictionary scripts, and other objects within isolated containers termed as layers. System application modifications will be automatically captured inside a new layer, so factory provided applications will not be overwritten. Implemented behind the scene, the layering unification engine will provide a unified view of the dictionary, allowing existing applications to function without interruption.
Multi-Factor Authentication
For organizations that emphasize security, multi-factor authentication (MFA) implementation as provided by TP v12 is essential for their LIMS. STARLIMS MFA requires verification of user identity through a secondary method like SMS or email.
Part 2 will discuss Instrumentation-Performance Monitoring, New Unified Installer, REST API Framework, REST Extensions, SAML Support, SSO Support for Native App, Support for Crystal Reports 2016, Various Security & Bug Fixes, and Virtual PDF Printing.
