Three Disaster Recovery Trends for Fall 2019
October 28, 2019
As discussed in Part 1, a handful of new technologies are emerging that will transform how you and your organization network. Part 2 will discuss Machine Learning, SD-WAN, and Wi-Fi 6.

Machine Learning

Machine Learning (ML) is increasingly being used for the analysis of telemetry from network data to recognize patterns that can inform an organization on how to optimize performance, increase financial efficiency, and improve security.
ML’s pattern-recognition capabilities will be used for noticing network behavior anomalies that may otherwise go undetected. As its technology develops, Machine Learning will become more autonomous and increasingly take the initiative.

SD-WAN

Companies are transitioning to SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide-Area networking), which lets networks securely route traffic as determined by the central management of rules and roles regardless of its entry and exit point.
Capable of being managed by smaller teams of network engineers, SD-WAN also allows greater flexibility in terms of revising rules and roles as business requirements are modified. In addition, the technology allows machine intelligence to handle network management, which decreases bandwidth costs and strengthens security.

Wi-Fi 6

Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) is an improvement upon the Wi-Fi protocol that is currently being widely utilized, 802.11ac.
Delivering a significantly greater efficiency over existing Wi-Fi bands, Wi-Fi 6 is slated to function over the 6GHz band by 2020, increasing its speed.
However, Wi-Fi 6’s best upgrade is its ability to allow a greater number of devices to function within a space and enable them to work faster.
Significantly raising Wi-Fi performance, Wi-Fi 6 will improve user experience because devices will be able to communicate with greater speed and reliability, even in facilities that are crowded with other users. Moreover, the rapidly growing number of mobile and IoT devices will eventually require the greater capabilities of Wi-Fi 6 for support.
